New studio, new year.

So eventually I got myself a new easel after moving far away from what used to be my home. Today I've been putting it together. :) I also grounded some canvases with raw umber and turpentine. Now all I need before I start painting, is good lighting, and to pass a couple of exams. My appartment smells of turpentine and blue hyacinths.

Blank linen canvases waiting to be covered in a sheer layer of raw umber.

A bit of publicity

My charcoal cast of Beethoven was featured in a fashion shoot in the April 2012 issue of Swedish fashion magazine Plaza Kvinna. Am happy about that.

Cast drawings

A cast drawing is a charcoal drawing done after a cast. Such as this cast of Dionysos.

My first cast drawing. An eye.

Augustus. First emperor of Rome. With and w/out a frame.

Six day fast cast. Charcoal.

Messed up failed cast. :)
This little guy somewhat reminds me of the youngest member of the Stark family of the Game of Thrones: Rickon Stark. :)

Drawings in graphite after Charles Bargue

These are graphite drawings after Charles Bargue's 19th century drawings or etchings (?).

Figure drawing, Florence

Charcoal figure drawings I made at the Florence Academy of Art in Florence, Italy, in 2008. At the drawing program the long figure poses are normally 5 weeks.

Still life and figure painting

Last summer, in July 2012, I attended a one week course at the Florence Academy of Art in Gothenburgh, Sweden. During that week, which was much anticipated, I recieved tutoring on realist painting for the first time! Each student painted one still life and one figure painting. I learned a great deal during that week. So, here they are: my first  figure and still life painting. Very basic and apparently not finished work but very helpful for the future.

Here is the palette I used for the still life.
The red (vermillion?) was for blending some of the blue mixes.

Figure drawing, Stockholm.

These are all charcoal figure drawings from 2011-2012. Made from life, as are all studies at school. The poses lasted four weeks and was made at SARA (Atelier Stockholm). However, I was away from school for some time during 2011-12, so i did not work on these drawings for the entire pose.

Introduction

I started this blog with the intention of showing some of my art work.  At the moment, I study full time at university, drawing and painting currently being something I may have the chance to do in my spare time. Just very recently I found a place to use as my studio and I am looking forward to doing some more art. Until then I am posting  older work. Created either at home in my bed room (not a very good idea concidering the painting medium) or at school: The Florence Academy of Art in Florence, Italy, or at The Swedish Academy of Art (SARA) in Stockholm, Sweden. I have not graduated the art program yet. You may pop in a bit later to see more recent work. I just need some more time to settle into my new environment. Welcome to my blog. :) -Anna
